Emergency Service Assist (ESA) in a level 3 automated car receives a signal of an upcoming Emergency Vehicle , Police, Ambulance or Fire Truck, informs the driver about the situation and it performs the required manoeuvre for a safe passing by or gives a Take-Over-Request to the driver who will be advised about the manoeuvre to perform. A test setup combining the HMI modalities of Head Up Display, vibrations, sound and light was used to explore the usefulness and satisfaction of these modalities. Generally, the participants understood and noticed the information that was needed to act on the situation, social differences caused to lack the urgency to react to some of the participants.
